02. Option 1

Option 1: Help Udacity democratize education worldwide

In this project, you will have the option to take part in Udacity’s mission of democratizing education, by creating a search campaign for one of Udacity's free courses.

You will follow the flow in the left-hand navigation for Option 1, by selecting the titles that say Option 1. For example, you will learn how to build your campaign in "Build Campaign Option 1" and learn how to create your ads in "Create your Ads Option 1."

Let’s get into AdWords!

Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Request access to AdWords. Fill out the form below to request access to the shared Google AdWords account.

After you request access you will receive two emails:

Please note that it can take up to four days from when you filled out the above form to receive the following emails!

  1. Your assigned course to promote and the URL for that course (emailed via Udacity to your Udacity affiliated email address). Each student will be assigned a different course for technical reasons. Please be sure to save this information. Be sure to check your spam folder if you have any trouble finding the email!
  2. Invitation to join the DMND AdWords account (emailed via AdWords to your Gmail account). Be sure to check your spam folder if you have any trouble finding the email!
  3. If you haven’t already, please accept the invitation to the Udacity DMND AdWords Manager account. You should have received an email to your Gmail address. If it has been more than four business days since you filled out the form and you haven't received either of the emails described above then please contact student support: dmnd-support@udacity.com.

To ensure you are building your campaign in the Udacity AdWords account, click on the navigation at the top righthand corner of the screen and select the AdWords account beginning in 873 or 863.

*No matter how many campaigns you set up, AdWords will only show one ad per landing page at a time. Given the keywords for a given landing page are finite, it is likely that you’d choose similar keywords to one another. This would increase the cost per click bid. In essence, we’d be competing against ourselves, whereby driving the cost up and up. To ensure each student can run a campaign, we’ve assigned each student one of Udacity’s free courses in a specific market.

What you will do:

You will create one AdWords search campaign that will run for 5 days. The course you will be promoting will be sent to you once you've filled out the form above. Your budget is $10/day and you will be advertising to India.

The campaign should consist of two Ad Groups that could either target different stages in the customer journey (e.g. general interest in the topic vs. a course), different aspects of the course or different target audiences. In either case, you want to make sure that you set up a different list of keywords for each Ad Group. After setting up your two Ad Groups, you will create two ads per Ad Group. You will then schedule your campaign to run in one week, so your reviewer has time to approve your campaign setup.

Skip down to "Build Campaign Option 1" for a detailed walkthrough of how to build your campaign.
